Cable Pipe Locator Underground Pipeline Route Tracer and Cable Identifier with 15W Transmitter and 11 Detection Frequencies | XHGX507C1

The XHGX507C1 is a comprehensive pipeline path detection instrument that brings pipeline route detection, cable identification and optional A-frame fault finding together in one tool set. Built around a signal transmitter, a transmitting current clamp, a receiver, a receiving flexible current clamp and a connecting test line, the set traces metal pipelines and buried cables accurately in a trenchless environment, measures depth and displays the running current along the route.

With fully digital high-precision sampling and a variety of filtering technologies, the instrument offers ultra-high sensitivity and an extremely narrow receiving passband, so it suppresses the power frequency and harmonic interference of adjacent running cables and pipelines. Depth, current and the relative position of the target line are shown continuously on a capacitive touch LCD, making the instrument suitable for the detection and patrol of underground metal pipelines in pipeline management and maintenance, municipal planning and construction, and power supply work.

Who It Is Built For
Two specialized field teams, one dual-role instrument

Unlike a single-purpose metal detector or a plain route tracer, the XHGX507C1 is designed for two professional crews who must combine path detection with cable identification on the same site run:

Power cable engineers and cable workers who need to identify live cables and power-off cables and pick out one target cable from many, so that a serious accident caused by mistakenly sawing a live cable can be avoided. Using the flexible current clamp and the pre-calibration function, a crew can pre-calibrate up to 20 cables at the transmitter end and then receive and identify them at the remote end, which removes the repeated round-trip calibration work and saves working time.

Pipeline management, maintenance and municipal planning crews who perform route detection, pipeline census and depth measurement on metal pipelines and underground cables where no trench has been opened, including power supply departments that patrol and maintain buried lines.

This dual capability meets the daily needs of pipeline maintenance units, cable workers and the utility departments responsible for underground asset management.

Core Functions and Features
Multiple detection modes: classic positioning mode, wire cruise mode and signal distortion measurement mode.
Classic positioning mode: compass, direction and signal amplitude display, intuitively showing the left and right direction of the pipeline.
Wire cruise mode: 360° all-round pipeline path indication with continuous display of depth, current and relative position of the pipeline. The interface is simple and intuitive and can be operated without experience.
Signal distortion measurement mode: displays peak and trough waveforms at the same time; in a distortion-free scene the peak and trough positions are consistent and the shape is symmetrical relative to the center line.
Current direction determination (partial frequency): eliminates adjacent line interference and prevents tracking errors by calibrating the current direction.
Fully digital high-precision sampling and processing: stable and reliable, ultra-high sensitivity, an extremely narrow receiving passband and strong anti-interference ability.
Multiple detection frequencies: 11 active detection frequencies and 3 passive detection frequencies.
Multiple signal output modes from the transmitter: direct output, caliper coupling and induction method.
Digital amplified power output: fully automatic impedance matching and fully automatic protection, with 9 adjustable output levels and a maximum signal output power of 15W.
Cable identification: identifies live cables and power-off cables and marks a successful identification with a check, so a target cable can be quickly and automatically recognized.

Signal Injection Methods Compared

An operation designed to match the site condition: the transmitter feeds a signal into the target line in three ways, and the choice depends on whether the line has an accessible metallic part and whether both ends are grounded.

MethodSuitable ConditionAdvantageNote
Direct Connection MethodMetal pipelines and de-energized cables with an accessible metallic pointObtains the maximum emission current, so it should be used first when conditions permitGrounding pin should be more than 5m from the pipeline and the black grounding wire kept as perpendicular to the pipeline as possible
Coupling MethodExposed line whose metal part cannot or is not allowed to be touched, with both ends grounded, especially power cablesNo electrical connection to the line is required and normal operation of the line is not affectedBoth ends of the sheath must be well grounded; the coupled current is smaller than the direct connection method
Induction MethodNo exposed point, or before ground excavation when checking for underground linesNo wiring and no electrical connection, well suited to area exploration of pipelinesSuitable for lines buried less than 2m deep; the transmitter must not be placed on a metal manhole cover or reinforced concrete pavement

For power-off cable identification, it is strictly forbidden to access live cables; live cable identification is only applicable to three-core armored cables. When identifying, the transmitting clamp and the receiving clamp cannot be mixed and the input signal direction must be consistent.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How do I choose the right detection frequency? There is no single standard; the choice is made flexibly according to actual reception and detection results. For general cable detection the recommended default is 3.20kHz, which has a low frequency, a long propagation distance and stronger anti-interference for easier distinction. For long-distance cables longer than 2-3km, 1.28kHz is recommended because a 3.20kHz signal attenuates heavily at longer distances. For long-distance pipeline tracking, a lower frequency of 640Hz to 3.20kHz is used; for general pipeline tracking, a medium to high frequency such as 8.19kHz can be used; and for high-resistance lines such as floating cable cores, anti-corrosion coated pipes or cast iron pipes, higher frequencies of 32.7kHz, 65.6kHz, 81.9kHz or 197kHz are used. When normal detection is possible, low frequency should be given priority.
Q2. What is the difference between the direct connection, coupling and induction methods? The direct connection method connects the transmitter output line to the metal line and injects the signal directly; it obtains the maximum emission current and should be used first when conditions permit. The coupling method clamps the transmitting current clamp onto the exposed line without making an electrical connection, and is suitable where the metal part cannot be touched, especially for power cables. The induction method uses the built-in radiation coil and requires no wiring or electrical connection, and is used where there is no exposed point or before ground excavation.
Q3. How many cables can be identified at one time, and what are the conditions? The number of cables that can be calibrated is 1 to 20. Identification succeeds when the current percentage of the received signal and the transmitted signal is between 75% and 135% of the calibration value, and the transmitting clamp, receiving clamp and loading signal must be in the same direction. Live cable identification is only applicable to three-core armored cables, and the transmitting clamp and receiving clamp cannot be mixed.
Q4. What should I do if the received signal is not strong enough? Start with a lower output signal and gradually increase the output; setting the output to a very high level may cause part of the signal to bleed out to other structures and waste energy. Wiring quality also matters: clean a corroded connection point with a wire brush, and for poor grounding insert the ground spike into wet ground and wet the surrounding ground. Avoid connecting to a fence, as this may generate an echo signal current along the fence and interfere with the positioning signal.
Q5. What are the power supply and display specifications? The receiver uses an 8.4V 5200mAh high-capacity rechargeable lithium battery and a 4.3-inch capacitive touch LCD color screen that is visible in sunlight. The transmitter uses an 11.1V high-capacity rechargeable lithium iron phosphate battery and a 5-inch capacitive touch LCD color screen. Both units dynamically display signal, output and battery status in real time.
